Men's Trend Report with REGARD Magazine... The Formula!

The simplicity of dressing is magnified in the springtime.  It becomes imperative to dress warm and cool at the same time.  It also makes the task of dressing easy with a simple formula: slacks or jeans, shirt and tie and dress shoes or cool sneakers.  Add accessories to your comfort level and you're done.  These basic principles worked well on friend to the magazine, Noel Fisher, on his shoot for us in the current issue.

The blueprint is simple.  All you need are a few great key pieces and you have the makings of  a great outfit for any occasion.  Just follow the model.... Good slacks or jeans, and a basic shirt that can be made cool and interesting with a funky tie.  Feel free to show a little personality.

Good accessories are a must no matter how minimal.  A sturdy belt and classic shoes are always a DO.  A watch should be worn in any adult situation, but have some fun with it.  Carry a bag for your laptop and electronic devices, but be sure the bag doesn't resemble a woman's purse.  Check out our example of an outfit idea to get your mojo flowing.  Think outside the box and give the formula a try.

Men's Trend Report with REGARD Magazine....City Flair

A few weeks ago, we had the chance to do an editorial photoshoot with Los Angeles Lakers’ Matt Barnes for our current issue 7.  He’s a fierce competitor, and the handsome fiancĂ© of friend to the magazine, Gloria Govan. Besides being incredibly good looking, a doting fiancĂ© (have you seen the rock?), and well rounded professional basketball player, Matt somehow also found time to be a fashion designer.  In 2009, he began to collaborate with Elusion Clothing  which also benefits his foundation, Atheletes vs. Cancer. The clothes are simple and chic with a “city boy” feel.

Here are few outfit ideas to inspire you to make your look more metropolitan and give you an urban edge
.

Men's Trend Report with REGARD Magazine....Fore!!

A few weeks ago, we had a chance to meet and work with the very classically stylish Mauricio Umansky for our Men's issue 7. When Mauricio is not with his beautiful daughters or doting on his lovely wife, our favorite Beverly Hills housewife and friend to the magazine, Kyle Richards, he is a world class Real Estate powerhouse. He lists some of the Hollywood Hills’ most luxurious living quarters. He showed us how he likes to unwind after a long business day, with a little golf. The pictures of him working on his back shot and lounging on a cart look dashing and fresh. Inspired by the pictorial with Mauricio Umansky, here is a quick change that will take your from the boardroom to a round of golf with your boss.

-First, add some plaid. This bright plaid will jazz up a simple blue suit. Leave your jacket in the car.

-Then, some cool accessories are a must. Classic golf spikes, a colorful belt, and a great pair of shades.
Quick change in a flash and be ready to hit the green. Give it a shot!

On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Stripes

One of the coolest pictorials in the April issue of REGARD Magazine is with ferocious young actor, Ross Thomas, in the distinguishingly cool clothing line, Caulfield Preparatory, by F.N. Sinclair. I love the easiness of Caulfield Prep. The tailored pieces are smart and debonair, while still maintaining a wicked cool and laid back feel. My favorite look on Ross is the first of him in a great bold striped sweater and basic black jeans. Stripes for guys can be just as tricky as stripes for ladies, so check it out fellas. Here are a few rules for stripes:

-Firstly, know your body type. This is important when choosing the best stripes to flatter you frame. Are you slender? Or do you happen to carry some extra weight?  Regardless, there are stripes that will compliment you, but understanding what flatters your physique is half the battle.

-If you are a barrel chested hunk and not a Slim Jim, smaller stripes closer together will be most becoming. This sweater is perfect because the stripes highlight your best features like your broad shoulders and strong forearms. The teal t-shirt underneath will add a jolt of visual interest and a shot of color.

-If you happen to be a slender chap, add a touch of weight to your frame by wearing bold stripes. The second sweater is perfect because it has two stripe sizes. This tricks the eye and keeps it moving, creating an interesting visual and a cool look while still being jeans, a T-Shirt and a sweater. Mind your proportion, and try some stripes today!

On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Just a little Dance

Last Night was the results show for “American Week” on "Dancing with the Stars." Sadly, friend to the magazine and DWTS Pro, Dmitry Chaplin and his partner, former model Petra Nemcova were not safe from elimination and they danced into the sunset.

A few weeks ago, Dmitry took some time out of his busy dance schedule to come shoot with us and his pictorial is smashing in this month’s issue. He looks dapper in the clothing line
Alchemy. He keeps it simple but incredibly chic in muted tones of grey and charcoal, with black and slate blue.  This basic color combination is a great foundation for any professional man’s wardrobe.  It’s completely possible so have a few basics in interesting prints and fabrics, and rotate them to maximize style but keep your closet minimal.

Here is one pair of trousers and one plaid oxford worn 2 ways. One casual, perfect to hit the bar after work and one more dressed; a great option for a dinner date. Using tones of grey with black and white don’t have to be boring. Use cool eye catching prints like plaid and interesting visual details, like a blazer with a zipper to add weight and significance to this muted color scheme. Also, variations in tone within the same color family makes for a cool chromatic effect. If your tones are too similar, it will look too matchy and won’t be flattering. Try to avoid looking like a block of cement
Have fun!
