On Trend with REGARD Magazine.... Maxi Dressing

I love how sweet, Ms. Debby Ryan looks in her maxi dress by BTFL People, in her spread in this month’s issue of REGARD.  Maxi dresses are great because they can be worn for few seasons, if paired with the right accessories, and with the 70’s being a trending style right now, they are perfect for spring.  Long dresses can be tricky, however, especially if you’re petite like me. The trick to rocking maxi dresses is finding the right shape for your figure, and the right length. Here are 3 maxi dresses, with 3 different shapes and necklines to inspire you.  Good Luck, and have fun!

On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Stripes for Spring

As I cruised through the magazine for the hundredth time last week, I realized how much I love stripes! The striped dresses by BTFL People on Ms. Taryn Southern are amazing, and look so good on her. I love a stripe and a nautical theme but it’s easy to overdo it, AND, it’s important to use stripes strategically, and to your advantage. Here are a few outfits for your consideration with rules on wearing your stripes.

First, if you’re going to wear stripes on you upper half and you are NOT a sample size, be sure that the stripes are not horizontal. Vertical stripes or stripes on a zigzag, like this one, trick the eye and are more flattering. The high wasted pants and leopard bag draw attention from the stripes and balance them, so they’re not so overwhelming.

Another way to wear stripes is in a very nautical theme. But to keep from looking like a swashbuckler, keep it light. Wear your T-shirt a little loose, and add an unexpected color. Light blue is a great option for spring and will brighten up navy blue nicely. Adding a uniform jacket with red accents just adds more visual interest. The red patent leather clutch is a must and looks chic paired with suede baby blue wedges.

If you’re not convinced on wearing stripes on top, try them on the bottom. I love a striped short, but yours don’t have to be as short as these. Pair any high wasted nautical inspired shorts and pair with a dressier piece. This purple brocade military jacket steals the show and makes the striped shorts more of a neutral. A cool T-shirt and thigh-hi boots keep this look cool and give it a rock and roll feel. Less is more when baring lots of leg. Too much and you risk looking like “the Nanny”.
