Winter White?
Should white be worn after Labor Day? This age old question that has perplexed west coasters for years, and sends east coaster into a tizzy. We love winter for white and have a few ideas on how you can inject some white into your wardrobe:
- Try wearing your whites in heavier fabrics that lend to the colder weather. Instead of a chiffon dress try a heavy lace brocade with a black underlay. The heavy black shoes, black tights and black leather, give the ladylike lace some weight and a hard edge.
- All white is gorgeous against the grey backdrop of winter. Try wearing all white, and adding some sparkle and a bright shoe for a night out. The suede of the platform is heavy enough to anchor all the white.
- Typically “winter whites” are more cream and ecru than true white. Be sure that if you are wearing whites, they are in the same tone family. This simply means no creamy whites with pure whites.
- If all white is too much, try wearing cream tones with khaki and cognac, and off white with grey and silver.
However you decide to incorporate white, have fun and be adventurous. Rules are meant to be broken!
