BEATLES HELP! MOVIE PREMIERE HISTORY

PhotobucketTHE BEATLES HELP! MOVIE PROMO

July 29th 1965 the Beatles' second film Help! had it's world premiere at the London Pavilion at the Piccadilly Circus. August & September 1965 the movie Help! premiered at a limited number of theaters in the USA. Waaaaay before there was MTV, there was 'A Hard Days Night' & 'Help!'

The movie poked fun at the British spy film genre made famous by the James Bond films. Help! featured the far-fetched comedic plot of a group of far-eastern fundamentalists who are trying to retrieve a 'sacrificial ring' that a member of their congregation had sent to Ringo in a fan letter. Throughout the film, the Beatles are chased through London, the Austrian Alps & the Bahamas by both the religious cult & a pair of bumbling scientists who are convinced that possessing the ring would enable them to rule the world.

Help! not only heavily influenced The Monkees' TV show which debuted the following year, but it really did helped pave the way for MTV with its clever use of separate song clips throughout the movie.

John Lennon told Rolling Stone in 1970 that it was Dick Lester, who had also directed the group's first movie 'A Hard Day's Night', who had complete control of the film. Lennon recalled, "The movie was out of our control. With A Hard Day's Night, we had a lot of input & it was semi-realistic. I realize now that it was a precursor to Batman's 'POW!' 'WOW!' But Dick Lester never explained that to us." Lennon said in that same interview that he & the rest of the group "Felt like extras in our own film."

During the making of The Beatles' Anthology in 1992 Paul McCartney joked that "I'm not sure anyone knew the script. I think we used to learn it on the way to the set."

Ultimately Help! which was originally titled 'Eight Arms To Hold You' is remembered for the groovy classic Beatle songs featured in the film including 'Help!, The Night Before, Ticket To Ride & I Need You.'

Two weeks after the premiere on August 15th, the Beatles kicked off their triumphant 1965 USA summer tour in New York City's Shea Stadium performing their biggest show yet for 55,500 screaming fans.

On Trend with REGARD Magazine ....Skirt the Issue

Like maxi dresses, long maxi skirts are a huge trend at the moment. But wearing them can be a little tricky. Here are a few tips to help you navigate this fad.

  • If you are petite, show your ankles. When you are on the shorter side of life, it’s important to strategically show some skin. Cover up too much, like with a skirt that skims the floor, you might disappear.  Emphasize your height, or lack thereof, with a pair of retro platforms.

  • If you happen to be bottom heavy, try a flowing skirt in a bright color. Then, by adding the bold striped bolero, you will bring focus and emphasis to your upper half while still highlighting your curves. Be sure your maxi skirt is not too tight. A peasant skirt is a great option.

    • If you happen to be top heavy, a printed skirt is a great alternative because it will draw attention to the bottom portion of your body which will visually balance your figure.  Add more visual interest with a striped loafer and keep it cool with a distressed cropped denim jacket. Have fun and give maxi skirts a try!

Pippi in Spring and Off to Oz

Please meet Pippi and Mr. Nelson.
They are pretty much the reason why my end of the wire
has been rather silent...so sorry, dear friends!

The long winter days have been spent in
sewing, felting, beading, painting, and dyeing fabrics
with lots of help from my girls for Miss Pippi!
Now she is ready to welcome spring
    with great Anticipation
    of New Adventures awaiting!

    (almost 11 inches)

Here are some of her details...

Her long thin legs were almost too cute to cover with Longstockings!
    But, because she is Pippi,
she insisted on mismatched stripey stockings.

Pretty green underpinings to keep her warm in her new Swiss home.
    ...yarn ties were temporary...

Often while I was busy with the children, Pippi helped out
cleaning up after the endless piles of messes made in the Doll Room
    and elsewhere in the house.

So, I fashioned a tidy little Lace Apron for her to wear
    as a heartfelt  *thank you*.

And she asked for a sturdy Pink Paintbrush Broom to clear out cobwebs.

My daughter and I nunofelted a lace Day Dress
    with fine, soft wools
dotted with a variety of tulle and lace fragments.

The underside of the dress was painted and glittered
for Pippi's planned trip to Oz.

Because she likes to travel light, we figured this was the best way
to send along a Party Dress for Emerald City.
She wishes to meet Queen Ozma,
and I have no doubt that she will do exactly that!

Her seafaring father sent a bag of jewels to help with the trip,
and here they are encircling her (attached) Slippers.

This is an Essentials Bag sewn according to her precise specifications.
Nelson can comfortably fit inside, if necessary.

I think he is scared of the flying monkeys in Oz.

    Photobucket

Since this Pippi is a faerie, she has wings...
and they can surely outfly monkey wings any day of the week.

So, Nelson has decided to go along to Oz afterall.

Mr. Nelson is fully poseable and wears the tiniest of handmade buttons,
a bendable furry tail, and an embroidered beanie.

He can stand on his own, but prefers sitting on Pippi's arm.
He says the view is better from up there.

After their Saturday photo session yesterday,
I found both of them standing at the kitchen window this morning
waiting for me to put the coffee waterkettle on to boil.
    .
With a sentimental yet excited glint in Miss Pippi's eye,
she was waving goodbye to me.
Packed and ready to go to Oz by way of Switzerland...

    Farewell, my little friends.
I wish we could come along too.
You were a work of love and will be greatly missed...

Was a great party with great music and shows. Was cool to be a part of it. I had loads of great feedback on the night from my show.
