X Factor contestant Lucie Jones makes West End debut alongside Nick Jonas in Les Miserables

Lucie Jones has made her West End debut playing Cosette in Les Miserables alongside Nick Jonas.
The former X Factor contestant, who was the fifth act to be sent home in last year's show after famously losing to John and Edward Grimes, said she was 'so excited' before Saturday night's performance at the Queen's Theatre.
Lucie's appearance on the show was particularly important for her, as she previously turned down the chance to audition for a part in the musical to try her luck on The X Factor.

Kevin Jonas interviewed by Daytona girl

This week's local celebrity, Pavlina Osta, did it again! She was granted an interview with Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers at Saturday's American Music Festival at the Daytona Beach Bandshell. Pavlina, who her mom describes as "very tenacious," got the 1.4-minute interview with the pop star in the VIP room before the show started. Pavlina said that while she is a fan of the Jonas Brothers, she is not quite as "crazed" as some of the girls at the festival, who she felt were on the verge of having a "heart attack." The interview, which will be aired on Pavlina's Saturday morning radio program, can also be heard by clicking on this link.

Read more about Pavlina in the full-length article about her.

Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas: Can They Still be Friends?

The romance! The breakup! Camp Rock 2 costars, tour mates, and former It couple Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas on being together . . . and drifting apart.

They're both talented, good-looking, and famous, but Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato don't exactly have the world on a string: Simpler pleasures, of the sort afforded to other kids their age, sometimes elude them. Earlier this year, when the Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam costars decided to test the romantic possibilities of their rock-solid friendship, they felt compelled to do so in public; when they broke up just a few months later, Joe announced it by issuing a statement, and Demi—always true to her loyal fans—decided to confirm the details on Twitter. "I kind of learned throughout this whole experience that having my private life public isn't as awesome as it might seem," the seventeen-year-old says with a rueful little laugh.
Even the process of scheduling their pre-split sit-down with Teen Vogue, for example—at which the then-couple agreed to interview each other—was complicated by their inability to appear together without risking mass hysteria. But for the most part, they seem to be fairly at ease with all the attention: After a daylong press junket, Demi's famous laugh is still as loud as ever, and Joe, 20, is chipper and ready to chat. (Naturally, they were more subdued when they spoke to Teen Vogue again after their breakup, but more on that in a bit.)

Demi Lovato: What's your favorite thing about me?
Joe Jonas: Do you really want me to answer that? Why don't you tell me: On set, what was your favorite snack? Because I think I already know.
Demi Lovato: The tomato-cheese quesadillas. Do you remember those? They were so good. What did you think it was?
Joe Jonas: Cheese sticks.
Demi Lovato: We didn't have cheese sticks!
Joe Jonas: Well, for some reason, I imagine you eating a lot of cheese sticks.
Demi Lovato: [Laughs] Thanks.
Joe Jonas: They just seem like something you would like.
Demi Lovato: I do love cheese sticks.
Joe Jonas: There you go.
Demi Lovato: So what was the hardest thing for you about making Camp Rock 2?
Joe Jonas: Finding time to sleep. There were so many things to do. If I wasn't on set, I was cooking or working out. What about you?
Demi Lovato: I think it was balancing sleep too. Even though I wasn't working out, I was dancing, sometimes for hours on end.
Joe Jonas: Have you ever been to a real summer camp?
Demi Lovato: Yeah, I went to church camp when I was in the sixth grade. What about you?
Joe Jonas: I went to sleepaway camp seven years in a row. I was such a pro. We had these relay races at the end of every summer, and the majority of the competitions were eating contests. Sometimes you would have to eat, like, a whole can of Spam; once I ate four raw potatoes. I didn't really recover for weeks after that.
Demi Lovato: Eww!
Joe Jonas: In some ways, making this movie felt like camp all over again. During breaks, we weren't hanging out in trailers—we were going down to the lake or playing in the woods.
Demi Lovato: We met when I auditioned for Jonas. What was your first impression of me?
Joe Jonas: I saw right away how smiley you were. Obviously, I didn't have a say in who was going to be cast, but it ended up being a good thing that you didn't get that role. If you had, you wouldn't have been in Camp Rock.
TEEN VOGUE: You guys were friends before you started dating. Whose idea was it to take the next step?
Joe Jonas: Mine.
TEEN VOGUE: So, Demi, you didn't already fancy him?
Demi Lovato: I had always fancied him. Want to know what actually happened? One night I asked him, "What is the deal? We're perfect for each other. What are you doing?" And he was like, "This is really awkward. I have to go."
Joe Jonas: I needed time to think.
Demi Lovato: And I thought, Great, I just ruined a friendship. But then the next day, he came knocking at my door.
Joe Jonas: Once she confronted me, I kind of confronted myself.
TEEN VOGUE: Joe's been in a couple of very high-profile relationships—with Taylor Swift, and Camilla Belle—and Demi's dated Trace Cyrus. Was it ever hard to see each other with other people?
Demi Lovato: Every girlfriend he had, I always wanted to have a friendship with, because I felt like if she was worthy enough to be with him, then she must be great. It sucked, watching, but I was always happy for him.
Joe Jonas: It wasn't easy.
Demi Lovato: Sometimes it was like, "So my boyfriend is so awesome." "Well, my girlfriend is really great." "Good for you!" [laughs]
TEEN VOGUE: You've sung together frequently. Do you like the same kinds of music?
Demi Lovato: I sent Joe some music from one of my favorite bands, Neon Indian. And he, in turn, introduced me to Michael Bublé. I also showed him who the Jonas Brothers were, and Joe's been a fan of them ever since.
Joe Jonas: Well, I used to like the Jonas Brothers.
Demi Lovato: And then they became mainstream.
Joe Jonas: She listens to harder music sometimes than I would. She'll say, "Listen to this great song."
Demi Lovato: And he's like . . . scary!
Joe Jonas: It's like, I'd much rather go see a happy movie.
Demi Lovato: And I would rather see an action film. So we alternate. We do other things too. We've had Easter egg hunts.
Joe Jonas: Not on Easter.
Demi Lovato: [Laughs] We've gone to Disneyland. We've made pizza. We go to dinner, on nice dates. And he cooks for me—he's good.
Joe Jonas: I love making Italian food. And coconut chicken.
Demi Lovato: I'm a vegetarian, though, so I just eat the vegetables.
Joe Jonas: I make vegetarian stuff too!
Demi Lovato: What are your goals?
Joe Jonas: I'd love to act more. I've had to turn down multiple movies because I was on tour, but it's encouraging to know that someday there might be the right role, the right timing. And I've been writing a lot of music, so hopefully very soon I'll have recorded a project of my own. I also want to get a boat and open a restaurant. What about you?
Demi Lovato: I want to be able to play more serious parts. I think it would be awesome to play an Angelina Jolie–type role in an action movie. Musicwise, I want to try new sounds. I want to be fearless.
TEEN VOGUE: Is there one question that no one ever asks you that you want to ask each other?
Joe Jonas: Demi, do you think you'll ever eat meat again?
Demi Lovato: Yeah. I'm not necessarily against it. I just don't like the taste, and for environmental reasons. What's the point of hurting the world if I don't like it? But I'm not saying I'll never have another hot dog for the rest of my life. My question for you is, Would you ever shave your head?
Joe Jonas: Yes. I've already asked my dad if I could.
Demi Lovato: Why does your dad get to decide?
Joe Jonas: I can't just shave my head. There's a lot more that goes into it than with the normal 20-year-old. But I will, for sure. I've always wanted to.
Postscript: Less than 48 hours after their interview, Joe and Demi decided—mutually, Joe insists—that it was better to be friends. A few days later they agreed to talk to Teen Vogue (this time separately) about their breakup. "It could have been better timing," admits Joe, calling from Washington, D.C. "But there's never really a good time for something like that. I really care about her." Demi, speaking from the Los Angeles set of her show Sonny with a Chance, was less guarded than her ex: Asked if she'd felt something was missing between them, she says simply, "No." Asked if that meant it was his decision to end things, she says, "Yeah."
"We haven't spent any time together since everything," she says, "because that would be awkward, but I'm sure things will go totally back to normal once we're on tour together. It's just that at this point I'd rather be hanging out with my girlfriends than seeing my ex." Joe, for his part, is eager to resume the close friendship they once had. "In this business," he explains, "it's really hard to find people who are going to be there for the rest of your life. When I met Demi, I knew right away that our friendship was really strong. I don't want to lose that ever," he says.

Matinee NYC Shows

Here are some pics form my shows at Matinees first ever party in NYC on Governer Island.... Was a beautiful evening!

Crowd packs venue for music festival

DAYTONA BEACH -- A temporary portal at the Bandshell entrance read "American Music Festival -- Daytona Beach: The Great American Destination."
With one-third of the pop group the Jonas Brothers on hand, plus the modern rock bands Lifehouse, Honor Society and local pop artists, the festival's kickoff concert Saturday was the destination for an estimated 3,500 people at the peak.
David Newell of the Daytona Beach Fire Department, estimated there were an additional 1,000 to 1,500 on the perimeter of the Bandshell. The city of Daytona Beach had set the Bandshell capacity at 4,700.
Presented by the Community Cultural Foundation, the event was part of that local organization's initiative, with support from the city, to "re-brand" and revitalize Daytona Beach, especially the "e-zone" (entertainment zone) that comprises the Bandshell and Boardwalk areas.
"We got here this morning; there was a line of people who had been here since 2:30 in the morning to get in," said Manuel Bornia, foundation president. "The first person was from Clermont, the second from Atlanta."
"The heat at the beginning affected us just as if it had rained. Yet we still had the diehards out there. However, this evening this place was packed. We're thrilled that the crowd was consistently growing at the end of the day."
Early in the afternoon, Bornia took the stage to address the crowd that, at that time, was about 400 strong: "They said it couldn't be done -- they said no Jonas brother would come to Daytona Beach. Well, guess what? I think we have a Jonas brother in Daytona Beach ... one-third of one of the world's most popular bands."
With that introduction, Kevin Jonas walked onstage. "Thank you so much for coming out -- I know it's a very hot day out there," he said. "We are about to kick off this amazing music festival. I will be your host for the day, so be hanging out, enjoy, stay cool if possible." The city's official high temperature Saturday was 92 degrees.
Reading from small cue cards he held, Jonas introduced each artist before their respective sets, spending about three minutes on stage chatting before exiting until the next act. Jonas introduced Holly Hill pop-rocker Chris Via, one of the festival acts, as "my new friend."
The lack of stage time and the fact Jonas did not perform didn't bother Katie McDonald, 18, and Priscilla Duff, 17, both from Clermont.
"We came to see Kevin Jonas," McDonald said. "I kind of expected him to just be in and out. We got to meet him. We won VIP tickets through the American Music Festival website. He was really nice."
Pavlina Osta, a 12-year-old Port Orange resident, got to interview Jonas in the VIP room before the start of the concert. Pavlina hosts her own local radio show on WAPN 91.5 FM.
"I like the Jonas Brothers' music, but I'm not like a crazed fan like the other girls (who were in the VIP room)," Pavlina said. "I thought they were going to have a heart attack."
Nancy Burgess-Hall, 56, and her husband, Doug Hall, admitted they are not fans of the Jonas Brothers or the other pop and rock artists on the bill.
"We were at the Oyster Pub at the National Federation of the Blind monthly meeting, and we decided to come afterward," Burgess-Hall said. "I've been reading the articles in the paper, and hearing (Holly Hill Mayor) Roland Via talk about it on the radio.
"I think it's a very nice idea. It's very relaxing," she said. "I'm glad to see this happening in Daytona. People are always bad-mouthing Daytona, saying there's nothing to do.
"I've been to some of the e-zone meetings (sponsored by the foundation and city officials). We really need to open this up so the public knows it's here."
The foundation plans to announce the lineup for Labor Day weekend concerts soon.

Joe's tweet about his Journey To Africa

Hello Hello Everyone,

Sorry I have been out of touch for a while but here is what I have been up to over the last few weeks. I have missed you all so much. I would like to tell you a little bit about what I have been doing.

I have seen some amazing things, met some wonderful people, tried some tasty foods, and been inches from HUGE lions. I have also experienced new cultures like I have never seen before.

My journey began in Maun, Botswana, Africa. I brought some of my best friends with me to be a part of this incredible experience. We were all changed by what we saw.

I was able to spend time with many kids and teens that go to school there. Their schools do not have the room to take care of this many people. Some of the classes had hundreds of kids in rooms smaller than most living rooms in the US. We played sports. I tested out my football skills (soccer in the US). We also played songs without by brothers. Felt strange to sing without my brothers but many of the people knew the songs, which surprised me considering that many do not have TV or radio.

I also spent time with some of the babies that were born to mothers carrying the HIV AIDS virus. Out of the entire trip this was one of the most touching moments. I miss those children already. I was close to coming back home with many Joe Jr.s.

One of the most powerful things to see is the joy the people had with so little material things in their lives. They were happy. Some without homes or bathrooms were still happy and wonderful to be with. It makes you think about your own life and the things you have. These people might not have a bed to sleep on but are still happy with their lives.

We went to a couple villages where there were 7 kids with one mother in a home made out of clay and soda bottles. We were able to bring them blankets to stay warm because the nights were so cold.

We all stayed in big tents while we were there with hot water bottles for our feet because it was so cold. Outside we could hear the sounds of monkeys climbing on the tent and Hippos close by every night.

We also went on a couple safaris – a walking safari, horseback safari, and a land rover off-road safari where you are inches from deadly animals.

Occasionally we made our safari guide mad by asking where Timon and Pumbaa from The Lion King lived.

I was asked while I was there if I would be a part of an event where kids were taught to respect themselves, others, and your environment. Prince William was the main guest and we spent a lot of time together. It was an honor to get to know him and I look forward to getting to see him again soon.

For the future, I plan on going back to Africa, as well as other nations, to help out in any way I can. I feel like hands-on work is where I feel most satisfied. I look forward to going to different places – not only Africa where I have new friends – but all around the world. It is my goal to spend 50% of my time and life doing what I can to help others.

Happy to be back.

Thanks for your support,

Joe

Our favorite random Michael Jackson covers

Nick Jonas is one of many to put a good spin on an MJ song. (Kyle Gustafson/FTWP)

By Allison Stewart
If history has taught us anything about covers of Michael Jackson songs, it's this: The more ridiculous they might initially seem, the better they often are. Who could forget the Filipino prisoners doing "Thriller" (more of an interpretive dance than an actual cover, but still)? Or Chris Cornell's Hail Mary, career-redeeming "Billie Jean"?
In commemoration of the first anniversary of his passing, Click Track has assembled some of the best random MJ covers floating around the Internets. Most were done after his death, with some notable exceptions.
Imogen Heap: "Thriller"
The British singer-songwriter turns in the mellowest, most insidious "Thriller" cover ever.

Nick Jonas: "The Way You Make Me Feel"
Ignore the "Cloverfield" camera work-this is Grade A second generation Boy Pop.
(Brazilian folk, Metallica, and something that, once seen, can never be unseen, after the jump.)

Caetano Veloso: "Billie Jean"
As discussed in this space back in May, the Brazilian legend's cover includes an "Eleanor Rigby" interpolation.

Various Fluxus artists: "Beat It"
An assemblage of Fluxus Entertainment artists (including Winterplay's Hye-Won) use apps to create a mixed media MJ homage.

Chiptune: "Beat It"
MJ's signature hit is converted into a funky elevator muzak using video game noises.

Metallica: "Beat It"
This one's actually kind of sweet.

Celine Dion: "Bad"
You might have thought it was just an urban legend, but no. This thing really happened.

STAGE KING

Has Nick Jonas been hitting the gym regularly for his West End debut? The Jonas Brother shows some muscle in a form-flattering white polo after a Wednesday performance of Les Miserables in London.

Don't miss: American Music Festival

Singer Kevin Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, will be the host of the American Music Festival, a free concert at the bandshell in Daytona Beach. (Getty Images / May 21, 2010)

Kevin Jonas will be there, but he likely won't have his guitar strapped on. Instead, the lone Jonas brother will be introducing the acts at the inaugural American Music Festival, a free day-long concert at the Daytona Beach Bandshell. The headliner will be Lifehouse, which will showcase signature hits and songs of its latest album, Smoke & Mirrors, in a set to start at 8 p.m. Also on the bill: Central Florida band Run Rhino (1 p.m.); kid singer Suite Caroline (1:50 p.m.); pop singer Chris Via (2:35 p.m.); Jonas Records act Honor Society (3:30 p.m.); Daytona Beach band Orange Avenue (4:45 p.m.); funk hybrid City of God (5:45 p.m.) and rock outfit Selby (6:45 p.m.).

Nick's Blog

This Month I have been in London rehearsing the role of Marius in Les Miserables. I will make my debut on the Queen's Theatre Stage June 21st. London's West End has such a buzz to it just like Broadway does in New York City. It is quite the honor for me as I was in Les Miserables in New York when I was 10.
Last month, Bayer and I launched the Give Back - Simply Win Contest to recognize the good work people with diabetes are doing in their communities. We have been getting a lot of great entries, picking the three winners is going to be very difficult. It is so important to give back when you can. If you haven't entered go to NicksSimpleWins.com and tell us about all the great ways you give back. I know you guys are out there doing good and I'm really excited to read all about it.
Be sure to catch the new season of "JONAS LA" which premiered on June 20.
My Simple Win: Enjoying my life every day and never letting diabetes slow me down even when rehearsing non-stop for a Broadway or West End show!
