On Trend with Regard Magazine ....DENIM

The origin of jeans begins as far back as the 16th Century when sailors from Genoa, Italy used a "jean" cloth material for clothing. Around the same time in England, a material was produced for clothes that would later be called "denim".  In America, the origin of jeans started during the Gold Rush of 1849 when a German born businessman, named Levi Strauss, started up a small wholesale company that supplied clothes to miners who wanted strong clothing that did not tear.

Today, Denim is quite literally,
“The fabric of our lives,” no pun intended.  There are so many new and innovative ways to wear denim that we came up with a list of DO’s and DON’T’s for denim, with a modern twist. ......Enjoy!

             Don't                                       DO                           Style Examples

DON’T settle for a conventional Denim shirt. Chances are it will be boxy and shapeless.

Instead, DO try a denim shirt in a new, innovative silhouette like an exaggerated Henley version, or a drop waist drawstring tunic.

DON’T wear a denim suit and
try to match your denim jacket to your jeans. Instead pair it with a great khaki for a casual outing, or slacks to the office.

DO upgrade to a more modern style like a tailored blazer in denim. Ladylike details such as a ruffle are a plus.

A jean skirt is a casual must have but the five pocket mini version is out.

DON’T let the hemline of your denim skirt creep up too high. As a respectable woman in society, leave the super short style to the reality show vixens.

DO try a high wasted a‐line, or be creative and find ways to incorporate denim in unconventional ways, where it may be an accent, and not the main focus.

Denim is one of the most versatile and durable textiles around. A great place to wear denim is on your feet.

But DON’T sport your new denim feet with jeans. Break up the denim fest with a great twill skirt, or cargo pants.

DO try out a denim shoe.

Jeans are the most important piece of clothing a woman can buy. However, all jeans are not created equally, and finding pair that are flattering to your body type, can be stressful. Thankfully, there are a few tips to make it easier.

STAY AWAY from distressing and details at the hip. It will only highlight what may be a problem area.

Also PLEASE LEAVE the acid wash in the 80’s and DON’T allow your jeans to drag and fray.

DO look for darker washes. The dark color makes them “dressier” but also allows you to break them in and let them distress naturally.

To get the long and lean effect, DO look for a boot cut or trouser fit that is long enough to compensate for your shoes.
