On Trend with REGARD Magazine ....Ask our Stylist...Blazers

Dear REGARD Stylist,

I would like to wear blazers, but I’m not sure how to wear them, or about when they are appropriate outside of the office. Help?  Anna Z., Van Nuys, Ca

Dearest Anna,

Blazers are one of the most important garments you can have in your closet. They can be very useful, as a more constructed finishing piece than say, a cardigan. There are plenty of ways to wear a blazer. To get you started, here are 3 easy ways to wear your blazer.

Blazer style jackets are an obvious choice for your inner executive. Blazers are traditionally worn to the office, often as a part of suit, or paired with slacks. If you happen to work in a more corporate environment, a blazer is a great place to have a little fun. Stuffy office clothes are often boring and lack any spirit. Try a funky, leopard print blazer like this one.  For work, be sure your blazer is well tailored, and if it is on the trendy side, the rest of your outfit should be very work appropriate.

A blazer style jacket is also a great way to add weight and substance to a dress that may be too skimpy on its own. If you are going out and you happen to be showing a lot of leg, add a slightly longer, fitted blazer.  The fitted shape will match the slimness of the dress, and the length gives an added layer, balancing the scant leg coverage. Your nightlife blazer can be satin and shiny, or sparkle with beading, so have fun with this one.

Some blazers don’t fit into the work mold or the nightlife mold. A heavier blazer in a trendy cut or color makes a great outerwear layer.  You can use a blazer like this as a jacket, and finish a fairly basic outfit into a cool ensemble that has depth and will make you look totally pulled together. Turn a simple t-shirt and jeans into a bonafide go-to outfit.

Hope this Helps!
