On Trend with REGARD Magazine ....Seer Sucker Punch

I adore the hunky actor and family man, Mr. Tim Griffin, in the well cultivated line, Franklin + Gower, in the April issue of REGARD Magazine. He looks suave in the all-American inspired shoot. I love the seersucker jacket in his first look, however, seersucker can be a very tricky fabric to navigate.

Traditionally, a southern gentleman’s uniform worn on the porch of the country club while sipping a mint julep, there have been lots of rules concerning the casual but “rich man’s” fabric and how to wear it properly. I say, throw all the rules out and find new and more contemporary ways to wear seersucker. Here are DO’s and Don’ts to get you started.

  • DO pay close attention to fit. Seersucker can be very luxurious looking but it can also look very cheap. While it’s true that seersucker should be a bit loose and has a crumpled look, be sure that your seersucker jacket still fits your shoulders and there is not too much loose fabric in the torso.
  • Don’t wear seersucker from head to toe unless your 6years old, 66 years old or Robert Redford in “The Great Gatsby”. DO, save your seersucker for after Labor Day and before Memorial Day.
  • Do try wearing seersucker in your own way. Try a casual pair of shorts with your favorite t-shirt and a blazer with a great pair of sneakers, or a tailored sport coat with a crisp white oxford, khakis and worn in brogues.
Summer is coming and seersucker will be cool and breezy, So give it a try!
