LYNDY'S WOODSTOCK TOP TEN SONG LIST & GROOVY PICS

AUGUST 15th 2009 WAS THE 40th
ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1969 WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL.

THE WALLKILL, NY #1 WOODSTOCK POSTER 1969
CREATED BY ARTIST DAVID BYRD

The producers of the Woodstock Festival had originally planned to hold it in Wallkill, New York. Shortly after this poster was printed the permit was revoked by the town of Wallkill. As a result, very few of these posters were issued.

THE FLOWER POWER VW VAN

After I spent three days at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, my mother refused to let me go cross country with my boyfriend & friends in their psychedelic peace sign painted VW van.

THE ROAD TO WOODSTOCK

That's the New York State Freeway which had to be shut down...

WOODSTOCK HALF A MILLION STRONG

So I can't wait to see director Ang Lee's new movie about the creation of the legendary concert, 'Taking Woodstock'. If you want to see the original songs the way they were played at the concert, you'll need to check out the 40th anniversary edition of the 'Woodstock' documentary that has just been released complete with bonus material that wasn't on the last DVD release.

THE WHITE LAKE, NY #2 WOODSTOCK POSTER 1969
CREATED BY ARTIST ARNOLD SKOLNICK

The Woodstock dove is really a catbird; originally, it perched on a flute. "I was staying on Shelter Island off Long Island & I was drawing catbirds all the time," said artist Arnold Skolnick. "As soon as Ira Arnold (a copywriter on the project) called with the copy-approved 'Three Days of Peace & Music', I just took the razor blade & cut that catbird out of the sketchpad I was using. "First, it sat on a flute. I was listening to jazz at the time & I guess that's why. But anyway, it sat on a flute for a day & I finally ended up putting it on a guitar."

If you really want to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, do it with some of the greatest songs that were played at the concert. Here is Lyndy's Woodstock Top Ten Song List all about promoting Peace, Love & Music...

* 1 WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS by Joe Cocker
Joe Cocker sings one of the most passionate songs about friendship. His voice will give you chills. There was no lip-synching at Woodstock & you can tell that the musicians were there to share their songs & their messages.

* 2 SUITE: JUDY BLUE EYES by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
This is one of my favorite songs that captures the mellow feel of the times about a breakup. Not at all depressing because it captures that feeling to be free & full of love. One of the most sweet sounding vocal harmonies & acoustic guitar songs you'll ever hear.

* 3 PROUD MARY by Creedence Clearwater Revival
It's one of their songs that many other artists have played over the years. The line "People on the river are happy to give" really captures the hippie spirit of sharing & caring for one another.
JANIS JOPLIN ON STAGE AT WOODSTOCK

* 4 PIECE OF MY HEART by Janis Joplin
Janis Joplin is one of the iconic artists of Woodstock & this heartfelt song about heartbreak is one of her most beloved songs still today. Janis Joplin wanted to show the world that a woman can be tough & that her heart was as big as the crowd at Woodstock.

* 5 DANCE TO THE MUSIC by Sly & The Family Stone
Everyone was dancing to the music at Woodstock & while Sly doesn't look like your typical hippie musician his performance at Woodstock was infused with a little funky soul.

* 6 MY GENERATION by The Who
It's a song that has gone on to define the 60s & the defiant but peaceful culture of the era. Seeing how the generation before them viewed their new way of thinking "I hope I die before I get old" was a line many young people at Woodstock identified with.

* 7 WHITE RABBIT by Jefferson Airplane
The 60's was an era full of Alices falling down the rabbit hole & Woodstock was the perfect Wonderland. Grace Slick's powerful voice complemented the psychedelic music perfectly. This song will definitely take you on a trip to that whole different world 'The Psychedelic 60s'.

* 8 WOODEN SHIPS by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
A smile is the same language all over the world & this song says it all. Free & easy harmonies with smooth guitar riffs. I can imagine watching the clouds go by at Woodstock while this song played on... It was time for our troops to pull out of Vietnam & I think that's what CSN&Y meant with their last words of the song that were "You don't need us... I think I'll set a course & go".

* 9 SPINNING WHEEL by Blood, Sweat & Tears
Like 'White Rabbit' it's one of the songs that captured the feeling of many of those in the crowd attempting to enhance their Woodstock experience with psychedelic music, imagery & great smokes.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE PIC OF JIMI

* 10 STAR SPANGLED BANNER & PURPLE HAZE by Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix performs the national anthem with a touch of guitar voodoo. This is one of those songs that can never be played again, Jimi Hendrix just did things with his guitar that cannot be duplicated. When he went right from the 'Star Spangled Banner' into 'Purple Haze', it was the defining moment of what Woodstock was all about.

My September Playlist was dedicated to these top ten songs of Woodstock plus more of the favorites from Woodstock like CSN&Y's amazing iconic song 'Woodstock' about joining in a Rock N' Roll band. (Each month my Playlist changes for the season). I really had fun celebrating this year's 40th Anniversary of Woodstock with these great songs that captured the spirit of the 60's.

We will never have another Woodstock. However these great songs will continue to capture the imaginations of generation after generation of those who share a LOVE of PEACE & MUSIC.

BLESSINGS OF LOVE, PEACE & HARMONY,
LYNDY WARD

Trey's Day is HERE and He's READY!

They say the third time's the charm. And now this boy has become a man--sort of. After the success of his "Can't Help But Wait" off of the sophomore album "TREY DAY", Tremaine Neverson better known as Trey Songz to YOU, is back with his third album, "READY" on Atlantic Records, and I must say this is a record that everyone should own! He sticks to his formula of sex but doesn't stray too far away from love and heartbreak.
The album opens with the intro, and Trey lets it be known that this album is indeed a "panty droppa". Then the knock comes, hard with an R. Kelly-laced track titled "Neighbors Know My Name" one of my favorite tracks on the album. Trey proves that he might just be the one to take R's place in the R&B world. Newcomer Drake appears on two tracks, "I Invented Sex" & "Successful", respectively. The album only has a few uptempo cuts, including the first single, Stargate's "I NEED A GIRL" and "LOL :-)" featuring mediocre rappers Souljah Boy Tell Em and Gucci Mane. This is the only track the album could have done without but Trey quickly recovers and give you the "Ready to Make Love" interlude and "Jupiter Love", where he sings of taking you on an elevated trip, while still in the bedroom. "Be Where You Are" comes next, and it's one of my favorites off the album. Trey's syrupy sweet vocals ride over this beat so well and he actually makes you feel like you are there with him. "Black Roses" is a hard track produced by Bei Major where Trey tells us about a love that's now dead. He sends the girl a dozen black roses to let her know that it's over and done. "Love Lost" is another recommended track which has a melody that reminds me of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature". The album sadly but oh so perfectly ends with the Prince-inspired song "Yo Side Of The Bed" where Trey does it falsetto and shows his raw emotion like never before. This is an album I would have to give an A because it shows a side of Trey that I think a lot of us have been waiting for. The grown and sexy side. Get READY!

Smell Like a Kardashian

In Kim K's quest to take over the world, she has recently signed a deal with Lighthouse Beauty to develop her own signature scent. Here's what Kim had to say about her exciting new project.

“Collaborating with Lighthouse Beauty was a really creative, innovative process,” said Kim. “What’s so different about their approach is that they have worked closely with me on all aspects of my fragrance, the bottle, the juice, and even our distribution strategy so I can develop a product that truly represents me and speaks to my fans. Because of their commitment to including me in the process, the fragrance really captures who I am.”

Only thing that I'm wondering is does it make you plump in all the right places...if so I'll take 2!

Kidding kidding

Black is the new Black

Chanel Iman, Jourdan Dunn, Arlenis Sosa, and Sessilee Lopez and the PYT's on the cover of Septembers i-D Magazine. Looks like they're taking a page out of Italian Vogue and realizing that a cover full of beautiful black models can make them a fortune!

Work it ladies!

Ehh. I'll Pass.

Am I the only one who doesn't see it for the cover of Vogue Italia with Rihanna. I mean, Rihanna has put a dent in the fashion world with her trends but this just isn't it. Much respect to Steven Klein, because he does amazing work...but this...I don't know. It just doesn't really tickle my fancy. The Valentino dress is delicious, and everything else is to die for. But the cover is not giving me life.

Gimme, Gimme!

Ok, for some reason I am starting to see it for Cassie. Is it weird that I feel like that top has moi all over it?! Lol...seriously, though.

R.I.P. Dj AM

Another Hollywood Angel has fallen. Adam Goldstein, aka Dj AM, could not cheat death the second time around. "Goldstein was found dead Friday evening at age 36 in his Manhattan apartment, where police found a crack pipe and prescription pills. He had been dealing with burn injuries received in the airplane crash and post-traumatic stress disorder he'd developed afterward" according to the Inquirer.

Dj AM worked hard at his battle with drugs and was in the works to filming an MTV Network special called "Gone Too Far". He kept all the celebs dancing, and shared his gift at the best clubs and parties. And I'm sure he will be dearly missed.

"New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems."

Mimic Me!

Just last season, Phillip Lim had dope dress in their collection. It was shaped like a large t-shirt but made of tiny crinoline and silk strips that created an amazing ruffle effect. Yeah, dope. Well I guess I wasn't the only one who paid close attention because this season, J. Crew has something VERY similar with their layered cotton tank. The cool thing about J. Crew's is that it can be layered under a blazer or jacket or something like that. It's only $39.99 for my fashion+financial friendly shoppers. :)

GQ Cudi

In the August 2009 issue of GQ, Kid Cudi is featured in a special grooming spread dealing with different hairstyles that GQ dubbed “Get Your Head on Straight”.

Kid Cudi On His Ever Evolving Do:
“When I lived in Cleveland, I had a barber who was by appointment only. We’d just kick it in his shop - I’d play him some of my music, and we’d crack jokes and watch movies. In high school, I kept a Caesar for a while, I had a Mohawk, and I used to apply these texturizer kits so I could have the bomb S-curl. I used to think I was [singer] Carl Thomas. Now I’m letting my hair grow out a bit, and I have this guy called Lyte who cuts my hair twice a week. Since I’m letting it go longer, I just get a trim and a lineup. I don’t really get the full cut anymore. I’m embracing my grungy look.”

Look 4 Less

Who wouldn't want Rihanna's croak over and die style??? So instead plotting on how to become a pop/rock star so you can afford designer shoes...just visit bakers and get the next best thing. $89 can get you this popular caged look, so you can "Run This Town Tonight". Lol...that was soooo corny, oh well.

Would You Wear these distressed denim boots from Bakers Shoes? I'm gonna hold my piece and just see what you have to say. Leave a comment.

The Past Is Haunting Us!

Who would have ever guessed that the fashion faux-pas of yesteryear would now be back knocking at our doors. Now, I know that history repeats itself and styles come back around, but I thought shoulder pads, tie-dye, and grannie pants were as good as gone.

Well surprise surprise. Designers sent their breathing hangers down the runway in almost every style that had been banned a few years ago. And surprisingly....I liked it! The new play with proportions gives fashion feins that freshness that we all long for. Cropped jackets are offset by high waisted loose trousers and sky-high platforms. Or, you can now see spandex mini-dresses once worn by the supermodel crew (Naomi, Cindy, and Linda), paired with boyfriend blazers, and oxford flats. And somehow...it works!

The way trends morph and become the opposite of the past seasons amazes me. The search for new will never stop, and this time around new just happens to be, old.
-Doni W.

Ad of the Week

I'm sorry but ALL of Gucci's fall ads make me wanna die(in the best possible way). So I couldn't do one without doing them all.

You Gotta Love Her...

So we haven't really touched on the GaGa rumors on LL because honestly...who cares??? Whether she has a va-jay-jay or peter-weter, or BOTH, does not determine if I'll listen to her music or not, or continue to obsess over her outrageous looks. With styles like the one above....she is fine with me. Now excuse me while I search for some left over yaky so I can make a "hair-bow" too. Lol.
GaGa you still rock my socks!

Estelle Hosts Rachel's Fashion Night Out

Fashion's Night Out is planned to be a HUGE night in NYC, and designer Rachel Roy is making sure her pop-up shop doesn't get lost in the chaos. She's called on her personal friend Estelle to host the party, Lady Bunny is in charge of the sounds, and Keyshia Cole will be making an appearance. Talk about star studded shopping, I would've been happy just to see Rachel, lol.

September 10th is definitely not the night to sit in and watch a movie. Go out and SHOP!

-Doni W.

Members Only

During Fashion Week this September designer Phillip Lim will be teaming up with American Express to hold a card member only event in Bryant Park. The attendees will enjoy cocktails, an encore presentation of his show, and elbow rubs with the likes of Vogue's Andre Leon Talley and Bergdorf's Linda Fargo, along with expert commentary. Sounds like a very stylish night, click here to purchase tickets.

Chris Brown's First Big Interview

Chris "Knock-Out" Brown was seen leaving the CNN studios 2 days ago, after doing his hour long interview with the one and only Larry King. Brown's mother and lawyer was by his side the whole time, and it has been said that Moma Brown got really emotional and shed a few tears. I can't help but think that this will be the most popular Larry King among the 16-25 crowd.

The whole issue is so touchy, and I can already feel myself tensing up if he doesn't show any sign of remorse or regret for what he did. And knowing Larry King, Chris is going to be forced to answer all the heavy and uncomfortable questions.

The highly anticipated interview can be seen September 2nd on CNN.

Fashion's Night Out!

Diddy... send me a t-shirt!

JoJo Fights Back!

Pop Artist JoJo is suing her record label, Da Family, to be released from her record contract. The 18-year-old singer is VERY desperate to leave the company, which she has been signed with since age 12. JoJo, real name Joanna Levesque, now wants a judge to force Da Family Entertainment to cut her loose — plus she wants at least $500,000 for her troubles.

I ain't mad at her! Get outta there boo! Lol

-Christopher Nic.

THEE Photoshoot

Diddy's #1 chick, Cassie has finally held her photoshoot with your daughters favorite clothing company, DimePiece Designs.

I knew the pics were going to be dope. I would've never expected this dope. Like I knew she was dope. But not this dope.

Basically, I'm trying to say that the shit is booomb. (You guys thought I was going to say dope, didn't you? Lol.)

-Christopher Nic.

Look Familiar?

First, I need you all to watch the video below. The music video for RichGirl's hit "He Ain't Wit Me Now, Tho"...

...now think back to Destiny's Child, circa 1999-2000.

Enough said. Outfits and all.

-Christopher Nic.

Did You See???

Cassie and Raquel Zimmerman took the cake at the premiere of The September Issue. Raquel worked one of her best assets (her legs) and Cassie rocked the edgy look with hot pink nails, black jumpsuit, and killer platforms (werk!). They certainly did not disappoint, especially since this is one of the big fashion nights of the year.

Wonder if Anna liked their looks...
