On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Guys get ready for New Year's Eve

Gentlemen!
To help you ring in the New Year in style, here are a few tips that may help you land that midnight kiss:

As you look to the new decade, why not push yourself a bit for your New Year’s Eve celebration? A blazer is a great way to dress up a pair of jeans. Try a velvet dinner jacket with jeans and a t-shirt. Or if you really want to go for the gusto, pair that jacket with a button down and a bow tie.

This is a great opportunity to wear a pair of really cool shoes. Try a really funky pair of tennis shoes in a rarely seen color, or a pair of 3 toned oxfords. Pairing a cool pair of shoes with a basic outfit, is a cool and easy way to add some interest and fun.

Wear a cool hat. It will keep your head warm for the fireworks and ladies love hats. They add mystery, and if ever there was a night for new beginnings and mystique, New Year’s Eve is it, so be creative. P.S. No Fur, Animal hats. A COOL hat is what we are going for here.

Finally, accessories are EVERYTHING. A Pair of tortoise shell clear lens glasses or, a soft and warm printed scarf  will add just a touch of pizazz and create a more exciting outfit for your New Year’s Eve celebration.

Also, my favorite accessory idea is an eye catching, conversation starting pair of cuff links. The clocks will keep the time, and help you track the hour and the count down, or the pair with the dice are great for fun and games.

Let Loose, Be Safe and have fun this New Year!!

On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... New Years' Eve Looks

Ladies! It’s New Year’s Eve!  And while many will use the countdown into the next decade as an excuse to be overly glittered, and frankly, a little under dressed, here are my top tips that will have you looking festive but chic.

First and foremost, it’s New Year’s Eve, 2010!  This is your chance to really experiment and have a lot of fun with sparkle.  Kick it up a few decibels and just for tonight, instead of removing an extra item before you leave the house, add one....like an extra cocktail ring, or a majorly sequined dress or jacket.

Secondly, have fun with colors. Go all out and try combinations that you may have never tried before.  For example, a pair of teal suede booties with a pink suede envelope clutch or a red blazer with chocolate brown harem pants.

Finally, accessories are EVERYTHING.  Conversation sparking accessories will ensure that you are the talk of the party.  Try a pair of leopard lace up oxfords to add a pop to a simpler outfit.

Here are some examples of how I would bring in the New Year.  Enjoy!

Happy Wedding Anniversary................

Like most couples we had no money, no furniture, but oh what a day........................and we celebrated Yule that night as we will tomorrow and pray that the Blessings of the Goddess are with all of us this Yultide and remember our lovely friend Sandy xxx.
A few words for yule...............

This is the season of the White Goddess,
And the time of the Divine Child.
It is a time for entering the wilderness,
And seeking the calmness of solitary locales.
This is a time to know the endurance of the hills,
For standing alone and godlike,
And seeing all things clearly.
So let us call forth the Old Ones,
And celebrate with joy the return of the Light!

At this time do we know the dark of the year.
The season of life is past, and all is cold.
Emptiness and blackness are all about.
Let us now give honour to the Goddess,
That the wheel of the year may turn on
Through the birth of the Divine Child,
The Golden Newborn Solstice Sun.
Bright Blessings my beloved

Surrey University Party

Some pics from the Surrey Uni Fetish Party a few weeks ago... I performed with the lovely Fuel Girls and had a crazy time performing to loads of crazy screaming drunken girls and boys! Was really funny!

Squeaking Mice......................

                                                                              Make your own Sugar Mice
450 Gram Granulated Sugar
225 ml water
2 tbsp of golden syrup
ribbon for tails
icing for eyes
Marble slap or very smooth surface

Put the sugar and water into a strong saucepan over a very gentle heat until ALL the sugar has melted, it will look cloudy white, only then bring it quickly to the boil and it will go clear, don't stir it and as soon as the temperature reaches 240 remove from the heat, if you let it go too much over you will get toffee brittle instead!!
Allow to cool in pan occasionally and  very gently stirring as it cools, as it gets stiff tip out onto slab and with a palette knife move the outside cool sugar into the center eventually you can handle it like pastry.
Then either press into moulds( Lakeland sell mice moulds ) or you can model by hand. This recipe makes 8-12 squeaky mice for about 60 pence.......Don't forget to add the tails and keep an eye on the sugar I left my first lot for2 minutes to long and ended up with hard toffee! ha ha

We are having Mr Sea-Angels mom for Christmas FIRST time ever! so I  have just started to get her room ready I want it to be a special magical Christmas (don't we all) and I liked the stillness and peace in there and the way the light is reflected from the snow outside, so I shall try to preserve that little peaceful place for her and not clutter it up toooo much ha ha...
Lots of hugs
Lynn

Playing with snow..................

Yesterday I put our Yule Wreath on the front door..I'm getting kind of worn out but in a pleasant
amiable sort of way .......you know what I mean..present wrapping's and glitter everywhere, unfinished projects begging to have a final button stitched on....and food ingredients accumulating in groaning cupboards...with icing sugar adding a touch of silent stickiness to everything..........I just want to finish work and throw myself into those final mad days before I finally pass out with a glass of bubbly...
Oh but I do love it sooo much
Hugs Lynn xxxx
PS look up Snow effect on this link it gives you quite a nice speckly look like my top picture

On Trend with REGARD Magazine ....Ask our Stylist... Staying Warm and Cute in Cold Weather

Dear Regard Stylist,

I just moved from Southern California to Washington DC. How do I dress for the cold weather (and be warm!) without looking like a walking, blonde, swollen tick?
- Joelle O., Washington DC.

Dearest Joelle,
The frosty temperatures make it easy to want to shun fashion in favor of warmth and comfort, especially if you are used to a warmer climate. These tips will keep you warm and stylish during the cold winter months, regardless of your location.

First, Winter accessories are some of the most important items you can own this season. They will keep you warm and fashionable when it's icy outside. Purchase fun, but heavy scarves or pashminas, soft leather gloves, and cute hats that will keep the wind out of your ears. Thick socks are also important, especially if you live where it snows. Since heat escapes through your head, hands, and feet, make sure that the pieces you buy for covering those areas are ones you love; you'll wear them more often than anything else, guaranteed.

Next, embrace layers. Layers can help you cope with varying indoor and outdoor temperatures and add warmth with style.  Layering with thinner fabrics makes a difference for two reasons: the layers should be easy to remove in the event that you feel you may be overheating under your top layer and layering adds interest and depth to any basic outfit. Think fashion and function.

Finally, you must invest in a great winter coat, preferably one that covers your bum. Have fun with your coat. Choose a cool color or funky fur collar, or maybe an interesting print. Whatever you prefer, be sure your coat is fully lined. Find a good pair of boots. They are in season all of fall and winter. Choose a boot that goes with what much of what you will be wearing, (purchase boots a half size larger to accommodate socks) and remember, quality is important when it comes to cold weather foot wear.

Joelle, don’t give up your California style sensibility, simply because you moved to a colder climate.

Try an outfit like this one..... Get the 70’s California hippie vibe, with a cold weather twist: A simple turtleneck, high wasted jeans, brown leather boots and a warm trench with a fur collar.
My last bit of advice is to be conscious of your body type and proportions. Winter wear can be very bulky. Beware!

Hope this Helps!

On Trend with REGARD Magazine ....Ask our Stylist... Men's Casual Dress Shoes

Dear REGARD Stylist,

My boyfriend hates dress shoes. He complains that they are severely uncomfortable, but he needs nice shoes for work, and for when we go out.  I’m tired of him wearing the same shoes he works out in, to take me to dinner. Help!
Maisha H. Westwood, Ca

Dear Maisha,
The rules concerning your honey’s foot fashion are pretty simple. There are options other than smelly gym shoes. Here are three of my favorites:

1. There is a major difference between sporting sneakers, and fashion sneakers. If your guy insists on a pair of kicks for going out in, find him a few really nice pair. A pair with some embellishment and a little color for a casual Saturday date, or a basic pair of dark slip-ons will also do the trick nicely and be much more appealing even just with a pair of jeans.

2. For a step above a sneaker, try a slip on. The first example shown is one of my favorites. It looks a lot like a slip on sneaker, but the fact that it is that the slip on style gives it a more sophisticated edge. The second example is a sporty  leather loafer style with a slightly extended toe box. Both will look great with not only jeans, but they can be dressed up a little, and will look great with a pair of chinos, crisp button up, and maybe a blazer. Great work option as the leather slip on style is usually very comfortable.

3. Desert Boots are yet another great alternative for exercise footwear. They are a chic cross between a boot and a cool leather or vinyl tennis shoe.  Typically, they come up above the ankle bone, so they are great for rainy days, and will keep your socks dry.

It is an inescapable fact that a pair of dress shoes with laces is much dressier and suit appropriate than a slip on, and most especially a sneaker. These are not in any way substitutions for a pair of a really nice pair of lace up oxfords or wingtips.  Your guy should have at bare a minimum a pair of lace ups with a slightly extended toe box, in the event that he has to wear a suit.  Dressier shoes should be in dark colors only like black, charcoal, or brown. Leave the crazy colored gators to the Huggy Bear wanna-be’s of the Universe. lol

Hope this Helps!

On Trend with Regard Magazine .... CAPES

The hottest trend to come back into fashion is the 70’s inspired Cape. They are everywhere, but they have not been getting the best reviews as they can be a little hard to wear. You can wear a cape as an alternative to a jacket or coat, depending on the fabric weight and if it is insulated.

The vast majority of capes have the tendency be quite voluminous, so be careful of proportion, especially if you are petite.

Capes with waist ties, are flattering on most everyone. The best way to integrate a new trend into your closet is simply to try it.

Try on a few more than a few to find the one that’s right for you. Here are my favorites and a few outfit ideas to get you started.

Have Fun!
