Wang is the Next Jacobs

I can't lie, most of my posts are inspired from what I tweeted last night, but that's beside the point. The subject at hand is fashions obsession with Alexander Wang and how I feel he will be the next Marc Jacobs. Just a few brief comparisons....they both attended Parsons, they both won the CFDA Wowenswear Designer of the Year award, and they both chose to live stream their shows this season.

Wangs four year old label has commanded respect from all his peers and fashion icons...Diane von Furstenburg was sitting front row at his show last night and when most editors decide to pick and choose whose show they'll be going to see...every single Marie Claire editor RSVP'd without thinking twice. Wang has become the one to watch. And watch we did. Yesterday around 5pm SHOWstudio.com streamed his show live and wherever you were on earth you could feel the energy and excitement when the lights went off and the music began to play.

I have to admit, the clothes weren't moving me like other collections, but it was true to his aesthetic and like I told Christopher Nic via Twitter, the retail versions of these looks will be much more wearable. And this too can be said for Marc Jacobs past collections, not everything he sends down the runway is gold. There are shoes in the fashion closet right now that I wouldn't stick my pinky toe in.

What makes me put these two in the same category is the excitement you see at the mention of their name, or how someone reacts picking up a Marc Jacobs or Alexander Wang bag. Alex is still a babe within his career but he has already accomplished some major things and you can't open a magazine without seeing something from Alexander Wang...and guess what? He's not an advertiser. In just a small amount of time I'm sure we'll see multiple divisions within the Wang brand (already he has accessories and T by Alexander Wang) and lots of stand alone stores. He is headed in the right direction.

Take it from Anna, sunglasses are no longer reserved for just fun in the sun. Sunglasses can now become apart of your personality and your signature look. Don't worry about the fashion bores who ask why you choose to wear shades indoors, or in the rain, they just wish they'd thought of it first. Once you muster up enough nerve to wear your shades with cloudy skies, take it all the way! Don't go for a basic pair, go for shades with as much personality as you. Vintage, colored, studded...go all the way. Believe me...it's Wintour approved.

Kimora Sprouse???

So I'm pretty sure your familiar with the Steven Sprouse inspired line of Louis Vuitton bags and accessories. If not, Marc Jacobs dedicated a line a collection to Steven Sprouse who was a very influential designer and artist who passed in 2004. Anywho, I found a bag that looks very familiar to the Sprouse collection but instead of Louis Vuitton it reads..."Kimora Lee Simmons".




I love Kimora with all my heart but, c'mon lady...you're not a knock off brand, show some originality. Smh...

Marc Knows Best

Several years ago, Marc Jacobs worked with artist Julie Verhoeven to embellish some Vuitton bags with her creative animal prints. The result was great, with the bags being extremely expensive and selling out immediately. This season, Marc by Marc Jacobs has a leather shopper that seems like it has gotten inspiration from the Verhoeven bags. The bag features MJ’s signature smiley mouse, plus an owl, a panda, and lots of hearts. The plus is that this bag is way cheaper than the Louis Vuitton version and is still for sale at Net-a-Porter.

Here's a little fit that I put together, that would compliment the bag nicely. Since the bag already does so much with the different patterns, you want to keep your fit simple. A real pale colored blouse, a pair of skinny leg jeans, a pair of leather brogue pumps (Pedro Garcia Maddie), and simple gold accessories. Be sure to have a light denim jacket on handy, just in case the weather changes it's mind that day, lol.

On Your 'Marc'...Get Set...Go!

The first pieces of Marc Jacobs’ Fall collection are finally starting to trickle through stores, which means this is probably the first time the public gets to see the pieces individually, instead of fantastically crammed on top of each other by stylist Venetia Scott.


This piece is a neon ruched skirt, rendered in Bubbalicious pink silk. For $595 at Net-a-Porter, you can own this bad baby...better catch it before it sells, which seems to be the case for a lot of styles by Marc. It looks really nice paired with simple black tights and booties, but you can do whatever pleases...just don't embarrass me. :)

Madonna is SHOT!

I guess Marc was thoroughly impressed with this spring’s Louis Vuitton campaign with Madonna that decided on an encore. Even though he has the same muse he says "I want something completely different". Using solarization they went to give this campaign "something very graphic, more edgy" than the first. Photographer Steven Meisel depicted Madonna as a French coquette in a Parisian bistro setting Arnault boasts that "We're one of the rare brands to have not reduced investments" Well Excuuuuuuuuse me! Lol

Old School Hollywood

I can never get enough of this man and his dopeness!

For the Marc Jacobs Resort 2010 collection, Jacobs went for a more upbeat look with the cropped jackets worn with bathing suit tops and high-waisted satin shorts and marinière tunic sweaters accented with flowers at the shoulder. It was a look that could go either on the island or in the city. Jacobs also reworked the gold lamé micro-mini toga dress that Kate Moss wore to the Met gala. Accessorized with super-high wooden platform T-straps and sandals, some with floral appliqués and the bags (including ones trimmed in semiprecious stones the size of gumballs), the effect was to die for.

Jay & B Might Wanna Watch Out

Designer, Marc Jacobs and partner FIANCE Lorenzo Martone. This was a shocker to me. They have barely been engaged for a month, so I wish them the best. Jacobs said “definitely no white” for the wedding. Lol..

It's In My Louie Bag

The things that Marc Jacobs does over at Louis Vuitton are just pure style inspiration. This is probably the only denim bag I would sport, and besides it's amazing exterior it also has a python interior lining! Now c'mon what better definition of luxury could you ask for? The only thing is, I wouldn't want to put anything in the bag...could you imagine your lotion spilling out on your python lining??? Omg that would be one sad day.

MJ Circa 1985

This look immediately caught my eye, and of course I should've guessed it came from the fall 09 Marc Jacobs show...he never fails me. The make-up is from Nars and all the models had kind of the same thing going on...pale face, fiece eyes, and the big hair to match. Now turn the volume down to about a two and this look can be easily transferred into your spring make-up routine.

Lime Green Daisy

At my recent visit to Sephora (Beauty Store) I had a chance to get lost in a field of daisy's. Daisy by Marc Jacobs is a soft and exciting combination of Spring. The fragrance is flirty but not too sexy, it plays more on the innocent side. Daisy has light notes of White Wood, Vanilla, Musk, Jasmine Petals, Violet Petals, and Strawberry to just name a few. Its defiantly a great everyday scent for the upcoming Spring weather because it's bright, alluring and eternal. P.S Be sure to get the New Limited Edition of Daisy, the bottle is sooooo much cuter, and yessss its an upgrade from the first release of Fall 07!

Good Job Marc

Marc Jacobs is a very busy man and he has a lot of people counting on his creativity, and I'm happy to say that it's not getting dull as the seasons go along. His spring Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was very well put together and wearable. Actually this line, unlike the regular Marc Jacobs line, is normally wearable. I liked the men's and women's pieces and I definitely fell in love with the striped shoes ♥. Enjoy.

Best Foot Forward

All of these shoes are really random and do not relate to each other in any way, besides the fact that you wear them on your feet. But I just couldn't resist sharing them with you...yeah I know I guess your pretty special.



So I guess Marc Jacobs wanted me to reminisce about the old days with these majorette style boots. Just by looking at them I can hear the sound of the drumline, lol, ok maybe not, but majorette is the first word that came to mind when I looked at these boots. Now if Jackson State or Southern Majorettes marched around in these $695 boots, they wouldn't have to battle anybody!




Now these shoes redefine the meaning of socks and sandals! At $70 by Cocobelle, you really can have it all...comfort, style, and affordability. This sandal is also available in tan, which I think I like better because it looks more earthy, but hey...at this price you can get both, and buy a pair for your friend.



Purple suede platform gladiator sandals...I love it! These were designed by Jenni Kayne, the uber-cool designer from the west coast, and they take much practice and concentration with a 4.75 inch heel. So practice now, my fellow fashionista's because you can throw these on with some skinny's or a dress and look like (to be cliche) a million dollars. I haven't been keeping my eye on Jenni, but she's just now been added to my hitlist.

The Marc Jacobs Sweat Shop

Did you know there were sweat shops in Manhattan?? Me either, but I got to witness it first hand. Ok, ok, it's not what you think, but it was close enough. Me and my road dawg Tisa got on the good foot and strolled from Soho to West Village (longest walk ever) in search of the hidden treasure that is Marc by Marc Jacobs specialty store that offers really cheap Marc by Marc items. I had to find it, I told y'all I'm the princess of cheap next to Tyra, The Queen. Anywho, we got there, finally, and it was the teeniest tiniest store I ever saw, and please believe, you had to make a mad dash for whatever you had your eye on, and if you plan on going...be prepared to sweat! It was crazy! I turned into a New Yorker within the blink of an eye, pushing my way through, reaching over, and snatching what I needed before the next person got it. When going to a place like this, the strategy is to just pick up anything that you might like, and edit down your decisions later, otherwise you won't have anything in the size, color, or style you need. So after my editing, I ended up with this tote...

Simple and basic for everyday, probably will end up being a book bag (I despise school), cute right?? Well if your not into a tote, they had flip flops, shorts, purses, wallets, condoms, keychains, and tons of t-shirts. I can't wait to go back and sweat it out, lol.

Next time I'll meet the maker...Mr. Jacobs himself.

Jacobs Got Jacked!?!

This is a good warning to all those working in high-end retail...just save your money, don't steal! A Marc by Marc accessories store manager by the name of Kyle Avlia got busted for stealing $62,000 from the boutique. One of the co-workers noticed missing money while reviewing the receipts and when Avlia was approached about it he immediately confessed, without any sound of remorse.

"I've been stealing the money from the money drops. I have been doing it for a while."

This man has some balls! He even had the opportunity to return the money before they contacted police but was unable to produce the missing money. So before you think about stealing money from any workplace I hope this picture of Marc pops into your head and you get a change of heart. We don't want to hear about one of our readers becoming cellmates with Avlia, k?!
