DEAR LADY LYNDY,
I've gotten rejection letters from some big publishing houses should I quit sending in my manuscript for my children's book to other publishing houses?
GRETA FROM BERLIN WISCONSIN

DEAR GRETA FROM BERLIN WISCONSIN,
NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

THIS IS THE STORY BEHIND THE REJECTION(S) OF ONE OF MOST FAMOUS AUTHOR'S OF CHILDREN'S BOOKS IN THE WORLD...

When the manuscript of Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone was finished, early in the New Year of 1996, Rowling visited Edinburgh Central Library to look up the Writers’ & Artists’ Year Book in search of a literary agent. Her first approach had been unsuccessful: a brief rejection letter. She then posted a sample of three chapters & a covering letter to Christopher Little Literary Agents, based in Fulham. It was here that a young reader, Bryony Evans, read the first chapter & laughed. Evans passed the chapters to Fleur Howle, a freelance reader, who agreed with her assessment & together they persuaded Little to sign up Rowling. A few days later Rowling received a letter asking for the remainder of the manuscript. The agency sent Rowling’s 200-page script to 12 publishers, all of whom, to their eternal regret, turned down the book. Harper Collins showed interest but was too slow in formulating a bid and so the first book by the most lucrative writer in the world was picked up by Bloomsbury for an advance of £1,500.

When Barry Cunningham, head of children’s fiction at Bloomsbury, invited Rowling to lunch in London, he praised her book but told her to be prepared as there was no financial reward in children’s books. Rowling did not care. To hold a hardback copy in her hand was reward enough. Yet prior to publication she would prove him wrong.

"The purest most unalloyed joy was when I finally knew it was going to be a book, a real book you could see sitting on the shelf of a bookshop" ~JK Rowling

I agree with JK Rowling...

DEAR LADY LYNDY,
Is it a good idea to get a US copyright for my book idea or the whole book?
BARRY

DEAR BARRY,
If you have not written your book yet you could submit your book idea to the US Copyright office. You must protect your written work (this includes art work & music) before big house publishing or self-publishing. Submit your work(s) to:
http://www.copyright.gov/

****************************

DEAR LADY LYNDY,
I'm thinking of self-publishing. I've been told I need to get an ISBN number. What is an ISBN number, do I need one for my book & how do I get one?
TONI SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS

DEAR TONI SPRINGFIELD ILLINOIS,
ISBN 'The International Standard Book Number' is a unique commercial book identifier barcode, which allows book sellers to order the book from distribution for resale.

If you want to make any real money on selling your book & obtaining a wider audience you'll need the ISBN number for greater distribution resale.

To obtain an ISBN number:

DEAR LADY LYNDY,
How do I get my book in my local library or any library for that matter?
STACY DONNALY

DEAR STACY DONNALY,
After your book has been published, submit your book to the Library Of Congress for the catalog control number:
http://www.loc.gov/index.html

The Library Of Congress indubitable insures your legacy until the earth implodes into a black hole.

Would You Wear...

Antonio Marras

You know what time it is people. We know about all the crazy things you can see coming down the runway now a days, some more interesting than the next. Well while browsing the net I came across an unfamiliar designer by the name of Antonia Marras. I was beginning to become slightly impressed with his Spring 09 mens collection until I came across the look above. ROTLMAO!!! Fashion smashion! What I wanna know is who would be caught in public with my neighbors garden sitting on their head, equipped with the embellishments?!

Bling Isn't Dead!

So you thought bling was a thing of the past? Sike! It's just back in a different way. It's more of a glamorous type of bling rather than flashy and tacky. It's back to the Gatsby era of really valuable jewels (or at least jewels that look valuable). All the big names...Dior, Gucci, David Yurman...have switched over from classic timeless pieces to showstopping timeless pieces and I'm falling in love (sigh).

These bold accessories have been poppin up in all the mags perfectly accenting the bold color clothes that have been hot for awhile now. It just all comes together...most designers have been giving us lady like styles from the 40's and 50's and the jewelry simply follows suit. After a lil searching I finally found the picture of the necklace that inspired this post which is worn by Ms. Over-exposed Rihanna. The necklace is by Vuitton and it's mesmerizing, I'm not mad at the way they styled it on her, but I wouldn't have that collar of the jacket in the way of such an amazing piece.

I guess it's time to stock up on the cocktail jewelry (or raid grannies jewelry box...hehehe)

OK, This Is Getting Out Of Hand...

It seems like every f'n time I turn around, another celebrity decides to dip their fingers into the fashion designing bowl. I get so irritated with the mess that they bring to the table. I mean, everyone already knows that half of you all don't dress yourself but that doesn't mean that it should look like it through your clothing lines. Everyone from Lauren Conrad to Scarlett Johansson has went and tried to become the next Coco...not gonna happen ladies. Next up to the plate(again) is Victoria Beckham, who already tried designing a line of jeans. Unfortunately for Posh, it sort of fell through :-(
I think part of the reason was due to lack of advertisement.

Now she's back at it with a new look; high-end dresses! I guess she decided to to go with something more of her style. She says that we can start looking for the dresses around September, retailing at around $1200. The reason being is because she is using "very expensive fabrics and finishes, lots of embroideries." I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't turn out a flop like the rest of the celebs that have attempted...and failed, miserably. Hopefully she proves me wrong, because I'm having serious doubts. And if there are any A-List celebrities out there reading this post(which I know there is, lol) please, pretty please, think long and hard before you decide to dabble in something that you have little experience in. Thanks!

Hot Damn!

Well I don't know how these lil beauties or booties slipped by me this season. I love riding boots to death, and Hermes did them in a way that no one expected. Hot Pink Crocodile...WHAT?!? That's crazy! With bold boots like this you have to take it easy with the rest of the outfit, because one false move and you could be a bright pink fool. I wouldn't even put on another pink piece of clothing with these...their just too hot on their own. I'd do all black (oh that's hot), or tan or khaki colors something real neutral.

I tell ya, these would be something I'd past down as a family heirloom, lol.

Birthday gift anyone??? (Aug. 26th)
