Nothing Is Wrong With Coco...Anymore.

When you think of high fashion supermodels, Coco Rocha is one of the first names that come to mind-besides Chanel ;-). Just recently Coco attended the CFDA conference and she spoke on the pressure models have from society to lose weight. While at the conference she announced to everyone that even she was under so much pressure that she was forced to start taking diuretics along with other unhealthy things that she did to her body. A diuretic is any type of drug that will elevate the rate of urination. There are many different kinds of diuretics that have there own different ways of excreting water from the body. Coco went on to talk about how just a few years ago she weighed a mere 108 pounds and the industry told her that she needed to lose a few more pounds because "the look this year is anorexic. We don't want you to be anorexic, we just want you to look it." Now if that isn't some of the craziest BS that I have ever heard before. Now this has been a drawn out discussion for years and I still see little change. The reason why models are so skinny is because most designers make their samples pieces to fit a stick. If they just use a little bit more fabric then maybe models wouldn't have to starve themselves just to fit in.

But I must say that not all designers are like that. Designer, Phillip Lim can be added to that list of sensible industry insiders. He sent Ali Michael flowers with a note saying, 'You're perfect as you are. See you next season.' Ali Michael is a model who stood up for models and spoke out against the unhealthy standards placed upon them when she was booked foe barely any shows last season because she gained a few extra pounds. I swear, this industry can be so hard....maybe that's why we love it so much?

"Last season I took diuretic pills. Once I took so many on an empty stomach that I was doubled over for hours. That's the last time I ever did something so terrible to my body."
