All That's Old Is New Again

Fashion designer's normally always look to the past for inspiration, and as of now the inspiration has been coming from all different times in history. The 80's, the 70's, and even the 40's and 50's has been apparent influences in the fashion world all in one year. Most of the time designers simultaneously go with one era, but I guess this time around they said to heck with that. Let's take a look.

The 80's

Take these artist for example. M.I.A. and the Cool Kids reek of 80's style. Mitch match colors, spandex, tight jeans with oversized sweatshirts...how much more 80's can you get?!? And please believe the kids around the globe have been following suit with the 80's style (half of the kids weren't even here in the 80's smh). The high end designers haven't really got into the 80's look, well maybe Alexander Wang with the ripped jeans, but mostly it's been street wear brands just like it was back in the real 80's (lol @ the real 80's). So don't expect to find a old school Chanel Mickey Mouse sweater, your better off hitting the thrift store or H & M.

The 70's

My favorite era by far is the 70's. It was so casually sexy with tight high-waisted bell bottoms, and long hippie dresses, and tight polyester suits for the guys (idk how anybody saw that as attractive). Anyway, designers like Micheal Kors and Versace paid homage to the Dena Jones' and the Charlies Angels in all of us, with wide leg trousers, patterned head scarfs, and jumpsuits you guys, that's right jumpsuits...jumpsuits that make you get half naked to use the bathroom, mmmhmmm you all remember that. I must say I am a fan of it all, even though I gravitate more towards the hippie style of the seventies I love the way the women back then would get extra "sharp" as my grannie would say. Even though the high end designers went for the seventies, you can find plenty of look a likes at Urban Outfitters (believe me).

The 50's

The 40's and 50's were all about lady-like tailored style. One of a kind suits, longer hemlines, and a defined waist. During this time women weren't out to prove anything but the fact that they were beautiful women and great house-wives. So of course they played up the fact that they had tiny waists (and if they didn't you better believe they threw a girdle around that thang) and feminine silhouettes. This was a time when women wore gloves and hats, and furs unapologetically. The older houses of Fendi and Dior displayed the 50's style effortlessly in their Spring 08 collections. Now if I could just get my money right to get a Dior suit.
