When Patterns Attack!

SO, if you're a young American and have access to cable television; you've been watchin America's Best Dance Crew! Starring our featured celebrity case study. Lil Mama has lots of young 90s baby spunk and spunk is what you need to be rocking those bangs nowadays....I digress. Lil Mama recently stepped out to the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network [WEEN] “Don’t Judge Me.EmPower Me” tour at the Hammerstein Ballroom this past weekend in a misguided attempt at either spunk or irony. Its Shade's guess.

WEEN is run by entertainment executives and insiders who are trying for more positive images and portrayals of women in the media. I dont think they wanted one of their guests to attend in an homage to The Color Purple!

MAYBE she's trying to draw attention to a national problem affecting American women these days, called The Discount Sundress. Spring and summer is a wonderful time to start experimenting with color and pattern, and I understand that I'm partial to black (you cant go wrong y'all! Coco knew what time it was!) and to simple lines; but I'm open to summer fun! Lil Mama is very brave indeed to provoke people into discussing this epidemic. We here at LivLux commend her.

WHO should also be commended for living by example is LaToya Luckett, formally of Destiny's Child and now an artist in her own right.

Ms.Luckett was also at the WEEN party and she brought out all the good things about summer! An adventurous yet simple pattern on a short simple frock. Its flattering and complete with a fresh smile! She can easily wear this to dinner with friends or even to the Fourth Of July family picnic. Lil Mama on the other hand; could only wear hers to the local Walmart, shopping for hot-dog buns and Kool-Aid. The sad part is that Lil Mama should be giving her elder; LaToya advice on how to be fun and sexy for the summer. But as my favorite Aunt on the 4th would say, "I'm a woman, y'all are babies!"
