MISS FURY MARLA DRAKE
The Black Fury, later known as Miss Fury whose alter ego was wealthy socialite Marla Drake. Miss Fury was the first female superhero created by a female cartoonist Tarpé Mills. A character based loosely on Mills' own appearance & the artwork was created in a glamorous 1940s style. Miss Fury's crime fighting costume was a sexy tight black Leopard skin that covered her from head to toe.


The Bell Syndicate which handled Mutt & Jeff launched Miss Fury as a Sunday page on April 6th, 1941. The Miss Fury Sunday series ran until 1952. Marvel Comics reprinted her adventures in a series of eight comics published 1942 to 1946.


Tarpé Mills cat Perri-Purr had been introduced into the strip as Miss Fury's cat & became the unofficial mascot for the allied troops during World War II.

In real life, Linda Turner 'The Black Cat' was of course, a Hollywood Movie Star. Linda was the daughter of silent film western actor Tim Turner & a former Hollywood stunt woman, who had successfully made the transition from stunt woman to lead actress. During the filming of a Hollywood movie, Linda suspects the film's director of being a Nazi spy. In order to follow him & gain corroborating evidence, she disguises herself in a backless blue blouse, red shorts, blue flared gloves, red buccaneer boots & a blue opera mask. Linda calls herself The Black Cat.

The Black Cat became a series of 65 issues from 1946 through 1963. There are reissues ~ recollections The Original Black Cat Series Sets some printed in 1991. All comics original to reissues are worthy of their investments.


According to Scoop Comic's Newsletter, a Comics Guaranty 'CGC-certified 4.0 very good condition' copy of Action Comics #1 1938, the debut of Superman sold for $195,000 in May 2006. This out-priced the 2004 expensive comic book sale of a 'CGC-certified 9.4 near mint condition' copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 1962, containing Spider-Man’s first appearance, by more than $70,000.

Elf in Waiting

Greetings my dear friends,







Following a brief break from ebay, I just listed a new sculpt yesterday. She is the largest and most intricate sculpture I have attempted yet, and I thoroughly relished working on her as time permitted.

Because of her 12 inch size she is a heavy weighted doll, so I put a brass rod in each leg for extra support.





The clay is almost porcelain white, so I plan to totally paint her in Genesis paints for a warmer skin tone. I wanted to share pictures of her before painting and costuming so you could see what a lovely canvas she will be for coloring and dressing.







Her character has a strong heart...of knowing hope fulfilled.







Also, my sculpting table has been graced with a wee French Gnome Faerie. A rare commission I accepted during my reprieve.







So tiny and delicate, and riding a shell with a fish for an escort. She has a definite destination to her journey and is determined to reach it.







My sculpting time has been sporadic...during nap times and late at night. But oh so pleasurable. Can you tell?

36-year-old man married his teenage daughter

JALPAIGURI: A 36-year-old man married his teenage daughter and made her pregnant, justifying his perverse act by claiming he had divine sanction for his incestuous lust. What's even more galling is that his wife was the prime witness in the nikah of her daughter to her husband.

Afazuddin Ali's wedding happened quietly and understandably without fanfare, so none in Kasiajhora village of Jalpaiguri district knew. But now, six months later, as the girl showed signs of pregnancy, eyebrows were raised, tongues started wagging and word finally got out.

Outrage and anger swept across the village and there was even talk of attacking the family. Sensing that things could quickly get out of control, cops from the Banerhat police station rushed in and arrested Ali, his wife Sakina and their 15-year-old daughter.

The three were taken to an SDO's court on Monday but the hapless magistrate had to release them because he had no criminal jurisdiction; there was no complainant and police strangely did not bring a case of statutory rape against Ali.

50 cent house bruned to the ground

50 Cent, Shaniqua Tompkins, their 10-year-old son Marquise, plus three other unidentified people, were in 50 Cent’s Dix Hills, NY house around 5:00 am when the house burst into flames. All six people were transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation. Fire investigators call the fire suspicious due to its intensity.

Tompkins was in the process of suing 50 Cent, aka Curtis Jackson, because she said he promised to give her the house. 50 Cent was in the process of trying to evict Tompkins from the house, and demanded she pay him $4,500 a month in rent while she remained in the house. The value of the house was upwards of $2.4 million.

He killed his own cousin!!!!!!

The Logan Town community on the Bushrod Island has become another scene of gruesome murder in recent time with the latest being a cousin stabbing his first cousin, Patrick Juwle to death.

Maceloni Kalongi, the accused, allegedly murdered his cousin at about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night after his cousin attempted to obstruct him (Kalongi) from forcibly going out with a call-girl.

Information gathered from the scene of the death revealed that Kalongi who wilfully stabbed his cousin, on numerous occasions threatened to kill his family member for what they did not disclose.

Of late, the area of Logan Town has been a ground of fear for life after the gruesome murder of Bishop John Afred Quao of the Salvation Church of God Ministry located in that same community.

Within three days another murder case has been reported in the same Logan Town this time around between a brother and sister children.

Reports from the scene confirmed that the alleged murderer is a cruel fellow who has always been involved in gangsterism and hooliganism with the most recent one being the murder of his cousin, Patrick.

According to the story, when Kalongi attempted to stab his cousin, their uncle Benard Juwle, Jr. tried to stop him, but paid deaf ears to their senior family member and retorted to stabbing their uncle.

In the process, he (Kalongi), allegedly missed his uncle and stabbed his mother in her hand, and as a result of the injury, his mother has received thirteen stitches.

The story further claimed that the alleged murderer refused to listen to any of his family members until he shall have completed his selfish and wicked motive during which time it was alleged that the accused was under the influence of drug.

The story however confirmed that the late Patrick who was identified as a 'very cool' fellow, managed to escape the hands of his cousin, but the murderer could not rest until he had finished the alleged calculated plan.

Kalongi then pursued his cousin during which time he stabbed the late Patrick again in the chest, right below his breast.

Following the devilish and wicked act of Kalongi, Patrick then hid himself in a small kitchen behind the family house where he laid until the family rushed him to the nearby clinic.

Upon arrival at the clinic, doctors announced that Patrick died 30 minutes before the body arrived at the clinic and confirmed that the deceased was stabbed at crucial positions, something that caused his demise.

A friend of the deceased also confirmed to this paper that the alleged murderer also threatened to kill him before killing his cousin. He claimed that kalongi had on numerous occasions, brutalized people and that he is widely noted for said attitude.

The incident, which took place in the vicinity of the Logan Town Little White Chapel left several young people and residents in tears especially for the untimely death of the late Patrick who many referred to as very kind and polite.

The alleged desperado was yesterday morning arrested by the Liberia National Police (LNP) and taken to its headquarters at the Capitol Hill for further investigations.

If star actress Genevieve Nnaji’s life were to be a movie script we would have titled it ‘Come Back Kid 1—3’. This is due to the fact that she has a way of rising over adversity. She emerged to be a star actress after the delivery of a baby girl at age 17 and came back strongly after a ban that many predicted would end her career. Here is the story of the Mbaise, Imo State ex-UNILAG student as she told SAMUEL OLATUNJI.

You’ve been credited with a lot of things in the movie industry; one of which is paving the way for dark-skinned actresses. How does it feel to have that singular honour?
I’m glad I’m able to bring some sanity into the creative world. Creativity is internal, not external, although when it comes to movie, it is required externally. I think to judge a person by the colour of his or her skin is a problem. Well, I will say I’m honoured. It’s a compliment, and I think some other actresses did it before me. We had Ann Njemaze and Uche Osotule, and so I’m not probably the only one.
It is amazing that you are giving credit to those before you. I spoke with a marketer sometime ago who specifically mentioned that a younger actress was not giving you and Omotola your due respect.
I think it is a personal issue really. You don’t know why people do or don’t do what they do. I think those are personal really. It is not my problem and it does not affect me in anyway. it’s their issue. I have no problems giving honour to whom it is due.

I once sent you an SMS that you are my Comeback Kid Three because you are like Hilary Clinton, who has a way of coming back again and again. How do you always reemerge when people seem to have written you off?
(Hearty laughter) I don’t know; that’s a weird question. I just think there is a time for everything. When it is your time you will know. It is not that I put my name to anything. You want to know how I keep coming back again and again? I really don’t know. But I think I don’t do anything because I feel like or because it is time to do it. It’s not a planned thing neither is it a comeback gimmick. It happens that way and it’s to my advantage. I give God the glory; that was not my plan really.

You’ve been into everything from movie to music and now to fashion, so what else?
Movie, music and fashion kind of go hand in hand. It has to do with entertainment. Movie making is entertainment, music is entertainment, fashion is glamour and TV is a glamorous thing, I think they all go hand in hand as it is, but you’ll just have to wait and see because it is all a surprise to me, as well. It is not like I expect it to come, it just comes to me and when they come, like I say, I am one person who does not plan. I just go with the flow. I go with the wind; wherever God directs me. And as it unveils itself to me that is how it unveils itself to everybody. You will just have to wait because I am eagerly waiting to see what next will come.

When will you start designing for men so that I can buy one?
I will still do for men, don’t worry.

I learned it will cost an arm and a leg to buy your designs from Lamide?
It will not cost an arm and a leg, those are rumours. It is very affordable.

When are you going to open the boutique?
Its going to be towards September or October. That is when we will finish the production of the brand so that when we open, it will come out well and people will not be taken by surprise.

And will it still be called St. Genevieve?
Yes it’s going to be called St. Genevieve.

Will you have branches in other parts of Nigeria?
Yes I am spreading it wide, even the fashion show will still go from state to state because there is a non-governmental organization (NGO) attached to the label.

Tell me about the NGO?
Well, I’m doing a little contribution with Link a child. Link a child is an NGO that we all know about. I’m doing it in a way that I get to clothe the children. What I’m doing is to give a percentage of everything bought to the NGO to clothe the children. This is an opportunity for me to give back to the society that has given to me. It also gives the children the opportunity to wear new clothes rather than tattered ones.

What is the partnership between you and Lamide like?
I draw the designs and Lamide brings it to life.
You’ve been busy hopping from one location to the other. Are you going to ever stop making movies?
No, that I can say right now, but then never say never. I’m sure some day, I will probably decide that I have had enough or this is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Like I used to say, I go with the flow.
I learned you are becoming choosier by the day and that is the reason you did not take part in Yankee Girls.

Don’t you think I should be choosier? Would you rather I do every film that came my way? I intend to give value for money. Those who believe in me and still go out to buy my movies should be adequately compensated. The little I can do right now is make sure it is worth their while. So, I have to be selective in what I’m doing. I don’t want to get bored or get depressed. For me, I have to enjoy what I’m doing. If a script does not make any sense to me or if I’m not enjoying what I’m doing, then there is no way I will play the role conveniently for the viewers.

Is it true you regretted not taking part in Yankee Girls?
I did not like the story line.

You’ve been linked to almost everybody romantically except me. When will you be linked to me?
(Prolonged laughter) I would rather not either.

Why are people always dropping your name when it comes to romance?
I should be the one asking you that question. You know the people in the dropping business; I think you should direct the question to them.

I read somewhere that you are now 31..
(Cuts in), do you mean 31? Are you people chasing me to my grave?

How does it feel to be 29 years old then?
It feels like I’m hitting 30, that is exactly how it feels. I feel good. It depends on how you feel inside; I’m young, I’m 25. Right now I’m 20 (laughter)

In Sleep Walker, you delivered your lines as someone meant to act.
May be I am meant to act.

When is Genevieve getting married?
Genevieve has not found a reason to be married yet.

That is surprising; you mean you need a reason?
Yes, if I find a reason to get married I will. Marriage is a lifetime commitment and I haven’t found that commitment. I haven’t seen that thing I want to live with for the rest of my life. I haven’t seen that reason I would want to be tied down with a person for the rest of my life. I just haven’t seen the encouragement.
Do you mean the men that come around you are not committed?
What makes you think men come around?
Ah, even I that is married feel like coming around.
If you think like that, it means the good ones are taken? Aren’t they? The good ones are running out.
Seriously, I know men would be falling over themselves for your hand in marriage. You have everything a man is looking for, it is just that I met my wife earlier.
(Another round of laughter) Obviously, they are looking but have not looked my way. I’m sitting around.

Don’t you feel lonely?
No. I’m too busy to be lonely.
You know business cannot fill some void.

What void?
You know, emotional void.
I think those kind of void come around only when you are idle. I think if you keep your mind busy, you are emotionally busy.

What kind of man are you looking for?
I’m sure if I see the kind of man I want I would recognize him.

How will you recognize something you don’t know you are looking for?
Well, if you are not looking for something and it comes to you, then it is yours.

You had a child at the age of 17. How come you did not end up like some other people who had babies and lost it all?
It is because, to have a child is not a curse, it is a blessing. It depends on how you decide to take it or how you programme yourself to see the world. I believe it is a grace God has given me; I see it as a blessing not a curse. The way you see things determines the way they work for you.
You must have felt traumatized.
Traumatized or not, I move ahead. Right now I can only thank God and move on and she is one of them.

How old is your daughter now?
She is now 12.

So while I was in the library at school supposedly researching for my class paper, I just happened to stumble across the 1980's Haper Baazar's and Vogue's (I'm not gone tell you what happened when I tried to take the August 1987 Vogue...the things we do for fashion...but that's my birthday year and month, I REALLY WANTED IT). Anywho, I finally saw Ms Iman in action, she was spotted in at least 3-4 ads throughout the mag, and this picture is from a Jacobson ad..I looked it up and I think it was a midwest department store. It was interesting to see all the big shots in their hay day, Linda Evangelista and Cristi Tirlington had a fashion spread together, along with a unknown black model that I'm gonna investigate. Something else I was excited about is that, when I looked at the Masthead guess who was absent??? Anna Wintour! She wasn't there yet, Grace Mirabella was the e-i-c and Diana Vreeland was the consulting editor...basically Grace asked Diana if she approved. So yeah, I was in heaven today at the library...too bad I got ZERO work done for class...oh well.

Jackets like these were in style??? I know it's been awhile...like 7th or 8th grade, but I guess MiMi wants it to make a comeback. Too bad I didn't want HER to make a comeback...she don't ever ever ever ever have to come back again, not with those almost booty shorts...meaning they could be booty shorts but they're about two inches too long. Actually, the whole look is 1999...The gel swoop that's not exactly swooped enough, the tinted glasses, the Jeannie ponytail, and heels. Now the heels are what really make it childish, back in the day, girls use to put on a heel with anything and call it dressy. "Mariah!!! (yelling) Your outfit isn't dressy!" She should really take it back and go stand in line on saturday morning to get the new Jordans to match this throwback of a fit.

Miss K’s ongoing movie project is expected to be a thriller in the African Diaspora community. “I have dreams and my first project, which I wrote, will be nothing short of the usual African movies ” Michaela boasts.
Fans will be thrilled to see Miss K’s upcoming flick entitled “Touch of Evil”, which is already in the work. However, the writer-producer confided in us that her project has been whittled down by financial woes.
“We have the committed students who are playing different roles in the movie. They have exceptional talents, but the low budget situation is seriously affecting our project.” Miss K quickly sent out an appeal to film makers and producers and other philanthropists to assist her achieves her dream.
“Touch of Evil” is just the start, according to Miss K. “We have bigger projects to come, but we need sponsors to help us reach the mountain top,” Macheala said.
The costumes, the shoes and the casts of multicultural talents have the magical portrayal of Africa’s true future stars in movie industry. Writer/producer star Macheala certainly is eyeing that line and she knows her audience: the young people, who will be eager to watch a movie produced by one of their kind.
The hotly awaited African film will become a huge success if the needed finances are available through donations. “This will be one of those African films you will relate to, because it portrays reality. You will also assess in terms of whom it's aiming to please. We know our audience has very specific tastes and needs.”
Miss K, who also wants to become one of Africa’s fashion icons in the coming years, is innovative and does get plenty of opportunities to display that side of her talent. “I have passion to model. I love the work of arts, but writing is my specialty right now. I want to make a different and also prove that women can also do better in the movie industry.”
“Touch of Evil” depicts a life of a woman being constantly abused by her male partner. “Everyone can relate to this story I’m sure you know someone who had been in an abusive relationship, and they don’t know what to do to get out. But there is always a way out. This story is not a personal experience, but I see it happened all the time to people that I care about.”

In "Touch of Evil", Janet is in love with Derrick, who beats and humiliates her in front her friend and make her feel like she is nothing all the time. Although he abuses her she doesn't seem to be leaving him as she tries to makes thing better by staying with him. But things only get worse.
Valerie is a friend who advices Janet to leave Derrick and find someone better but Janet insists that everything will be alright, only to find out that Derrick is cheating with one of her best friends. But will Janet find ways to leave Derrick? Will she take more abuses from him? Will she find true love? This movie is very exciting, entertaining and full of surprises and suspends.

Harry Laud, a popular film producer who did a lot of work with Kwame, when asked whether he suspected foul play, told BEATWAVES: “I do not want to pass any comment. I am not a prophet to comment on his death whether it was natural or spiritual.”Harry Laud said Kwame was his close friend and they had done a lot of productions together and travelled on business trips together, adding that his absence would affect the film industry in Ghana.

Can Naomi Campbell Get Any Bigger?!

For all you Naomi Campbell bashers, get started on that hate mail! Famed photographer, Nick Knight has announced that his newest project is creating 30-foot sculptures of Campbell. One sculpture will be of Naomi straddling the barrel of a large tank and the other will be a circle of three Naomi's, something like the Three Graces but it will be designed to be viewed from the inside of the circle. The only question I have is "Where are these gonna go?!?!" Maybe next to the statue of Abraham Lincoln in D.C.? Ok, maybe not. What if they have it something like the Statue of Liberty? That would be cool..tell us what you think and where you might erect this larger than life supermodel diva.

There's A New Guy On The Block

Male models are never given as much recognition as female models so Liv Lux has taken the courtesy of acknowledging a young man who we think has stepped up in the fashion industry and has plans on taking the runway by storm, one runway at a time! 23-year old model, Jon Kortajarena has a very impressive resume to show off to anyone willing to sit down and be amazed. Kortajarena started his career in 2004 with View Management and is now signed to Wilhelmina and Bleu Management. His debut was the 2004 fall Emporio Armani and John Galliano shows in Milan and Paris and later on that year he became the face of Just Cavalli for the spring. Throughout his career, Kortajarena has done over 10 ad campaigns and numerous editorials for high fashion magazines across the globe. Will somebody give this man his props?! In 2007 a contract was signed between Jon and Guess which he has recently renewed. I would say the most memorable stepping stone in Kortajarena's career so far would be the ad campaign for Tom Ford's 2008 spring look book. Can you say HOTT!?!? This guy has walked for the best of the best such as D&G, John Galliano, Giorgio Armani and Chanel. So I think I've given you all enough info on this cat, so why don't you all do your own research on Mr. Jon Kortajarena...trust me, it's always fun learning something new and I can guarantee you will be hearing this man's name more and more. Who Cares About Gas?!?

With Gucci bikes...no one should need or want a car. I mean have you ever seen a Gucci Car??? A real Gucci car, not a car with fake Gucci fabric that yo cousin from around the way threw on the back seats...yeah I didn't think so. I've really, no seriously, been considering investing in a set of 2 wheels not 4 to get around town, because I refuse to sacrifice clothes or food for "expensive for no reason" gas. Now Gucci gave me a reason to think a little harder, I'm sure it's about the equivalent of the price of a car , but hey...It's eco-friendly, and easy on the pockets in the long run. Also just extra fyi this particular Gucci bike was made for the Olympic games in Beijing. Coolness!





Well I guess we can't give Gucci all the credit, because Chanel has a fierce pair of wheels on the market too. I heard a story that Karl walked past a window of a store and saw the bike and went in and sat on it and caused a frenzy! Imagine walking past a store window and seeing Karl perched on a 10 speed Chanel...OMG I would just die! So here are my reasons to try to persuade you to ride bikes instead of drive...

1. Your working out while you travel, instead of traveling to the gym to work out.

2. It keeps about 200 extra dollars in your pocket a month, because your gas tank isn't drinking up all your money.

3. And lastly it's better on the environment! I'm sure Al Gore and Leonardo Dicaprio will love you lots if they see you riding a bike down the street. And Anna Wintour will love you more if she see's it's a Gucci bike.

So be cool people...and ride a bike!

Zac x Diddy

We all need to take notes from my God Daddy Diddy (yes I'm claiming him as my God Daddy, I know he has a lot of kids, but what will one more hurt). He said himself that he's not making money from music, but what he is making money from is the MTV shows that were on around the clock..bet you didn't know he was involved with Run's House (read the credits people)...all the making the bands, his fragrances, his clothing line, and now someone else's clothing line. It was the best idea in the world for Diddy to partner up with Zac Posen and his Ready to Wear Collection. For one: Zac's designs rock my socks, and two: Why not capitalize on your brand and someone else's brand?

I know I'm slipping but, I just took a look at Zac's Spring collection and I must say although not very cohesive, all the clothing is very much up to par...no what's better than par? A birdie?? Yeah I think his collection is a birdie, lol. He has amazing red carpet worthy dresses along with shirts, skirts, and pants that are great for everyday. And if you can't decide which trend to follow this season (tribal, artsy, floral) Posen pretty much covers them all so, be at ease my indecisive friends. All I can say is take a look for yourself, and like I said, take out your pen and pad whenever Diddy makes a move.

Salvation Show @ London Hippodrome

Last weekend I was invited to perform at one of London’s most prestigious venues with over 108 years of history for the Salvation Party. It was quite funny actually because Aussie Bum had sent me some stuff to wear and when I got there i found out the event was sponsored by Aussie Bum and the owners were there! So, it was very synchronistic!

The show went really well and the crowd was amazingly responsive!
